چکیده

Polymer and organic solar cells degrade during illumination and in the dark. This is in contrast to photovoltaics based on inorganic semiconductors such as silicon. Long operational lifetimes of solar cell devices are required in real-life application and the understanding and alleviation of the degradation phenomena are a prerequisite for successful application of this new and promising technology. In this review, the current understanding of stability/degradation in organic and polymer solar cell devices is presented and the methods for studying and elucidating degradation are discussed. Methods for enhancing the stability through the choice of better active materials, encapsulation, application of getter materials and UV-filters are also discussed. r 2008 Elsevier B.V. Stability of Bulk-Heterojunction Blends for Solar Cell Applications

Polymer solar cells are a promising alternative to more traditional silicon solar cells. This is mainly due to the good solubility of organic semiconductors, which makes it possible to produce large-scale and mechanically flexible devices with roll-to-roll processes. To be able to fully utilise this promising technique the stability of the materials, used in these devices, must be guaranteed. T...

Improving the long-term stability of PBDTTPD polymer solar cells through material purification aimed at removing organic impurities†

While bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells fabricated from high Mn PBDTTPD achieve power conversion efficiencies (PCE) as high as 7.3%, the short-circuit current density (JSC) of these devices can drop by 20% after seven days of storage in the dark and under inert conditions. This degradation is characterized by the appearance of S-shape features in the reverse bias region of current–voltage (...

The Influence of Conjugated Polymer Side Chain Manipulation on the Efficiency and Stability of Polymer Solar Cells

The stability of polymer solar cells (PSCs) can be influenced by the introduction of particular moieties on the conjugated polymer side chains. In this study, two series of donor-acceptor copolymers, based on bis(thienyl)dialkoxybenzene donor and benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (BT) or thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole (TzTz) acceptor units, were selected toward effective device scalability by roll-coating. Stability of graphene-based heterojunction solar cells

Bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells based on organic small molecules and polymers are the focus of increasing attention by science and commerce. In organic photovoltaic devices, a conjugated polymer layer is used as the donor, while a fullerene-based derivative is used as the acceptor. Poly(3,4ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) is one of the most common interfacial ma...

Effect of Seed Layer on the Morphology of ‎Zinc Oxide Nanorods as an Electron ‎Transport Layer in Polymer Solar Cells ‎

Zinc oxide has been considered as a promising semiconductor material for fabrication of transparent conductive oxides (TCOs), electronic devices, optoelectronics, and solar cells. Among the various morphologies of zinc oxide, nanorods are more widely used because of the ease of synthesis and providing a direct path for the transport of charge carriers. The electrochemical deposi...
